Our MISSION

We founded Quilted Press to collectivize publishing and create a model that affords creative control and ownership to authors of non-traditional stories. We strive to foster more transparency in the industry and create new entry points for marginalized writers.

DO IT YOURSELF. TOGETHER.

Quilted Press functions as an anti-capitalist, pro-queer & trans collective of independent authors. We leverage the strengths and efficiencies of the creator economy to deliver high-quality professional design, printing, and marketing.

Ethical distribution

We hope to educate readers about alternative sellers that don’t exploit creative workers. We focus on distribution through indie bookstores and direct sales channels, and minimize sales through big tech and corporate sellers of printed, audio, and digital books.

Education

As we experiment with our collective, we plan to empower more authors by providing educational content. We want to distribute the insights we’ve gained so that others can use them as building blocks for new publishing projects that fit their mission and needs. We will begin writing and designing educational content once we’ve completed an entire publishing cycle with our first cohort of books in late 2024.

Support for independent presses

Our organization believes in the power of independent presses and authors to challenge the status quo and promote literary freedom. For that reason, we uplift and contribute to the success of these—and other organizations—that share our values.
